How Does A Chemical Peel Work?

Chemical peels work by removing the outermost layers of the skin. The depth of the peeling is determined by the chemical agent used and the concentration, among other factors. Following a chemical peel, the deeper layers of the skin will respond by regenerating new skin and by increasing the production of collagen. Therefore greatly improving the skins texture and appearance.

How is it different to other Dermalogica Skin Treatments?

It is Dermalogica's most powerful resurfacing treatment to date, unlike any other professional treatment available.

It delivers visible results quickly without the adverse side effects of aggressive chemical peels. The flexibility of this particular treatment allows layering of the different peels within the collection to target several concerns in one hit. Both 30 minute and 60 minute peel treatments are available to suit every persons time restraints.

Due to the advanced nature of this treatment a consultation and patch test are required at least 24 hours before your first treatment. A course of treatments is required, with a minimum of 3 treatments, but ideally 6, at regular intervals.

There are important pre-peel preparations and post treatment aftercare that must be strictly followed to achieve maximum results. These will be discussed with you prior to commencing your course of treatments.

Is There Anything I need To Do To Prepare For My pro power peel Treatments?

Once your skin care professional determines you are a candidate for the Pro Power Peel treatments, she may prescribe a Dermalogica product pre-treatment regimen specific to your skin condition. It is good practice to discontinue the use of prescribed exfoliants (such as Retin-A or Renova) at least 48 hours prior to, and during your course of peel treatments.

To receive the best possible results from this peel treatment it is imperative the skin is in a healthy state (e.g. cracked or dehydrated skin can allow the chemical peel agents to penetrate quicker and further which can intensify stinging and burning and have an adverse effect.). Your therapist will assess your skin and provide information as to the best course of action in the lead up to your peel.

Is There Any Post Treatment Care I Should Be Aware Of?

Immediately after your Pro Power Peel treatment, it is normal for your skin to appear slightly red and flushed. As your skin goes through the renewal process you may experience dryness, redness and tightness, as well as some peeling or flaking within a week. You may also notice a temporarily more pronounced appearance of pigmentation as it rises to the skins surface. An aftercare kit will be provided to you (free of charge) to use following your peel. This will give your skin the hydration boost and protection it needs to gain optimum results.

These side effects will subside quickly with proper post-treatment care, starting with the Peel After Care Kit.

You will need to avoid direct sun exposure for 2-3 weeks after your Peel treatment and wear a wide brim hat if you must be in the sun. Direct sun exposure must be avoided to prevent hyper-pigmentation.

Your dedication to post-treatment care will impact the results of Pro Power Peel treatments so ask our skin therapist for a fully customised Dermalogica skin care prescription to help ensure lasting results.
